Vintage Square Engagement Ring

The Bette ring is a vintage square-set engagement ring from the Art Deco era, circa 1925! This ring centers a  old mine cut diamond weighing 1.40 carats of K color, SI2 clarity. The diamond is set in a platinum box setting and has a single cut diamond to each side, set amidst open metalwork. The ring is size 8.25 and can be resized!

Why We Love It

A classic Art Deco style with the box setting and a gorgeous, chunky old mine cut diamond! This vintage square engagement ring is very delicate and feminine! We love the way the angles work together in this ring—how that great faceting is complemented by the thick corner prongs and the gentle diamond-shaped setting for the side stones.

This ring is a platinum lover’s dream, showcasing some of the best potential for the metal. There’s fine millegrain detail throughout the setting and down the outer edges of the band. On the box setting itself, there’s a cross-hatched pattern on the top of the prongs and line work down the sides, creating an absolutely unique Art Deco style. The craftsmanship in this ring is so chic, but it’s also very practical, with the open metalwork allowing optimal light to pass through that beautiful diamond!

Go Bold With A Box Setting

Along with the prong setting and the cluster, the box setting is a hallmark of Art Deco style. However, unlike the other two styles, which have been popular in other vintage eras, the box setting is more uniquely a product of its time, adored for its bold geometric design. Here are just a few reasons you’ll love this design:

  • Provides a secure setting
  • Allows light to flow through sides, giving you better shine than similar styles like the bezel setting
  • Turns a circular stone square, sometimes making it appear larger
  • Is a great way to combine shapes and an excellent way to show off the metal!

At a time when women were exploring less traditionally feminine styles and roles in society, the box setting offered both a bold and delicate appeal, creating some truly unique vintage engagement rings!
